Environmental sciences as a subject was introduced in the year 2004 as a compulsory subject for the undergraduate students this subject is multidisciplinary, flexible and holistic in its character. In the University of Jammu environmental Sciences department is a part of faculty of Life Sciences. Since 2018-19 onwards, skill enhancement courses for the subject have also been introduced in the college under Choice Based Credits System (CBCS). The chief purpose of the subject is that students, individuals and social group should acquire awareness, knowledge, develop attitude, skill and abilities and participate in solving real life environmental problems.
The department adopts class room and field based approach for teaching environmental sciences and ensuring that students develops an overall understanding of the subject.
