The Department of SOCIOLOGY GDC, Mahanpur had come into existence in 2015. Under the
Supervision of the then Principal, Dr. Janak Singh, the Department of Sociology became fully
functional in 2015. In the initial years of its existence, the pioneering efforts by the early
incumbent of the department, Ms. Ritika Sharma, Lecturer in Sociology helped enormously in
transforming it into a full-fledged and one of the most coveted departments of the college in
the years to come. However, Ms. Ritika being on Contractual remained there for short tenure.
With the due passage of time, the department got new faculties on Academic arrangement all
have put their best to run the department successfully. Different faculties have joined the
department for different sessions, none have joined there as permanent faculty till Date and in
the current session 2021-22 Dr. Hilal Ahmad Bhat is running the Department with great
enthusiasm.
Studying sociology is beneficial both for the individual and for society. By
studying sociology people learn how to think critically about social issues and problems that
confront our society. The study of sociology enriches students' lives and prepares them for
careers in an increasingly diverse world.
