International Women’s Day Celebrated in GDC Mahanpur
Government Degree College, Mahanpur celebrated International Women’s Day on 8th of March, 2022 in the College premises. The programme was conducted under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrut Mohatsav. It was organised by the Women Empowerment Committee of the College under the guidance and supervision of Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul, Principal of the College. A Poetry Recitation Competition and Slogan Writing Competition were organised on the theme “Gender Equality Today for Sustainable Tomorrow” on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The programme was initiated by Prof. Rupalee Jasrotia, Department of English. Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul, Principal of the College gave the keynote address. In his address, he emphasized on the heroic role played by the women in the Vedic era. Moreover, he also motivated the students of the College to respect, love, support and empower the women. The chief guest of the event was Ms. Radhika Sohan, Tehsildar Mahanpur. A bouquet of flowers was presented to Ms. Radhika. In her address,she not only shared her life experiences with the students but also motivated them to work hard in their lives. Arti Devi (5th sem), and Sakshi Billawaria (5th sem) bagged first and second prize in the Slogan Writing Competition respectively. The third position in the Slogan Writing Competition was shared by Pawan Singh (5th sem) and Zakir Hussain (1st). Shallu Devi (5th sem) and Isha Devi ( 5th sem) bagged first and second prize in Poetry Recitation Competition respectively. Moreover, third position was shared by Ghulab Nabi (3rd sem) and Rekha Rani ( 3rd sem). A momento and certificate of appreciation were presented to Ms. Radhika Sohan as a token of gratitude and respect.Dr. Sapna Devi, Convener of the event, also gave the passing remarks and recited her own poetry. Dr. Sartaj, Department of Urdu, also read a paper on the position of women in the society. More than seventy students attended the Programme. A total of twenty four students participated in the competitions.
The faculty members who were present in the event were Dr. Balbindar Singh, Dr. Munisha Devi, Prof. Arvind Kumar, Sh. Saurabh Dutta, Dr. Parshottam Dass, Dr.Neetika Verma, Dr. Sartaj and Mr. Mukesh Kumar.The programme was hosted by Prof Rupalee Jasrotia. The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Munisha Devi, Department of Education. Refreshment was also given to the students. The chief guest took a College Tour along with the faculty. She appreciated the College infrastructure and facilities.She suggested to introduce two monthly magazines namely Kurukshetra and Yojana in the library. Moreover after the College visit, lunch was also served to the Chief guest as well as the staff.
